Nature of work

Landscape or maintain grounds of property using hand or power tools or equipment. Workers typically perform a variety of tasks, which may include any combination of the following: sod laying, mowing, trimming, planting, watering, fertilizing, digging, raking, sprinkler installation, and installation of mortar-less segmental concrete masonry wall units.

Working conditions

Landscapers spend most of the time outside performing physical labor. They work in all kinds of weather conditions; work may be dirty and physically demanding.

Training

There are typically no educational requirements for this occupation. Those with a high school diploma or equivalent have a competitive advantage in the labor market. In addition, short-term, on-the-job training is typically needed, once employed, to attain competency in the skills needed in this occupation.
