This Educator Externship program is a two-week summer program, where educators have the opportunity to gain hands-on learning experiences about many of the various careers available in the construction industry. Educators visit multiple construction company offices and jobsites during the program to better understand the skills and competencies needed to perform construction related occupations in the skilled trades, professional, and adminstrative arenas. Attendees tour several active apprenticeship training programs. Participants are required to complete informational interviews with key individuals in the industry, maintain a reflective journal of their experiences, and develop at least one lesson plan to be shared with other educators.  See more...

2018 Information packet

History/Background: This project began in 2016 when an AGC and Willamette Promise partnership began to look at unfilled positions in the construction industry’s high demand, high wage fields.  The Oregon construction industry was interested in partnering with WP to provide Oregon educators with an opportunity to shadow and learn about the numerous opportunities in this industry with two primary goals in mind:  Build relationships with educators, and support these educators with information, observation, and exploration into the industry. The goal was to let educators know how to engage all students in the professional skills needed to succeed in careers, and help students identify career opportunities within the industry.
